Meowant SC-M01 Review

The SC-M01 is the cheapest rotating-globe box worth taking seriously.

Updated 2026-09-02

Verdict

The SC-M01 is the cheapest rotating-globe box worth taking seriously. It has the three safety systems that matter, it takes ordinary kitchen bags, and it costs a third of a Litter-Robot. The plastics feel it, the motor is the loudest here, and the app does the minimum. For a first automatic box in a one- or two-cat home, that is a defensible set of compromises.

Pros

  • Full globe mechanism for under $300
  • Standard kitchen bags — no consumable lock-in
  • Three safety systems despite the price
  • Lowest running cost of any powered box here

Cons

  • Loudest cycle in this index
  • Materials feel budget
  • App is bare-bones
  • Short company track record

Best for

  • First-time buyers
  • One or two average-sized cats
  • The lowest possible cost per year

Not ideal for

  • Noise-sensitive rooms
  • Large cats
  • Buyers who want a mature app

Scores

Six categories, weighted toward the two that people actually buy these for. See the method.

  • Cleaning 7.9

How completely and reliably it clears waste on every cycle.

  • Odor control 7.5

Seal quality, filtration, and how the room smells after a week.

  • Safety 8.0

Sensor coverage, pinch protection, and behaviour when a cat re-enters.

  • App 7.0

Setup, connection reliability, and whether the data is actually useful.

  • Maintenance 7.6

How long a full clean takes and how well the unit comes apart.

  • Value 9.1

Purchase price plus consumables against what it delivers.

Cleaning

Better than the price suggests. The globe clears clumps properly with clay and tofu, and the 8 L drawer is respectable. The sifting screen needs more frequent attention than the premium boxes.

Odor control

A sealed drawer and carbon filter with no active deodoriser. Fine for one cat, marginal for two. The drawer gasket is the cheapest-feeling component on the unit.

Safety

Infrared entry, weight sensing and anti-pinch reverse — the same three layers as boxes costing twice as much. Meowant cut costs in materials and software, not in sensors, which is the right order.

Noise

Around 52 dB at three feet — the loudest box in this index. The motor is audible through a closed door. Do not put this near a bedroom.

Setup

About twenty minutes. The instructions are thin and the drum seats with more force than feels comfortable the first time, but nothing is genuinely difficult. Wi-Fi pairing is 2.4 GHz only.

App

Bare-bones. Cycle control, a fill indicator and a visit counter. No health trends, no per-cat separation. It works, and the connection holds, which at this price is the bar.

Consumables

Standard kitchen bags and a filter, around $65 a year. The lowest running cost of any powered box here.

Long-term cost

Cheap to buy and cheap to run, which is a rare combination. Over five years it is roughly a third of the Purobot Ultra and comfortably the lowest total cost of any smart box in this index.
